Babson Skating Club is an active figure skating club with approximately 125 members located in Wellesley, Massachusetts, with ice facilities at the Babson Skating Center on Route 135 at the Wellesley-Needham line. The Club has been a member of the United States Figure Skating Association (USFSA) for 30 years serving Wellesley and Needham and the surrounding towns of Newton, Weston, Natick, Dover, Sherborn, Westwood and Framingham.
The
purpose of the Club is to encourage the instruction, practice and advancement
of its members -- children, teenagers and adults --in freestyle, pairs, dance,
synchro and all types of figure skating, as well as to encourage a spirit
of fraternal feeling among ice skaters. Our members are both recreational
and competitive skaters. The Club is also a registered USFSA Basic Skills
program.
We operate a 10-month skating season from September to June each year, dovetailing with ice run by the rink in the summer. The Club offers private ice to its members for individual instruction and the opportunity to participate in various group activities and perform in Club-sponsored exhibitions and shows. Our synchro team, Ice Cubes, competes at the Juvenile level and went to Nationals in 2007! Additional ice time is available directly through the rink and during public skating hours, 10-12 Monday thru Friday and 2-4 Sundays.
Our Basic Skills members work with their coaches to complete specific skill levels offered for beginning skaters. For our more advanced skaters, USFSA test sessions for freestyle/moves in the field are held three times a year, with additional dance tests scheduled as needed by the membership. Our members compete in USFSA-sanctioned Basic Skills and regular competitions.
